Some have mused what would happen in a battle between the hero of The Shadow of Tiamat dragon Garrett Terago, and vampire (sorta) Edward Cullen from...well, you all know who he is.
Based on careful calculation of the respective abilities of the two - Edward's super speed, great strength and ability to sparkle, verses Garrett being a DRAGON, the predicted outcome is...

...it wouldn't end well for Edward.
Dragon vs. Vampire
DRAGON WINS
...got Dragon?
Admittedly, this wouldn't be a very fair fight for Edward. I mean, duh a dragon is going to kill a vampire. That's like making an infant battle a grizzly bear. I think a fairer match-up might be between Edward and Max, or Edward and Leigh Hillburn (a profesional monster hunter I haven't introduced until the third Dragon's Blood Chronicle.) In those circumstances, Edward would have a better chance. He'd probably be able to take Max in a head-to-head confrontation, but he'd know that and make sure it never came to that. He never had any formal military training, but his father was an Air Force Black Ops officer and he's taught Max more than a few tricks. Also, Max has another advantage that I can't really talk about without giving away things in the third book...but suffice to say that he would be immune to most vampire thought-reading powers and charm. And Max isn't afraid to call friends for help, and those friends include the aforementioned Garrett Terago--though Garrett would probably remain in human form for the duration of the beatdown, giving Edward a slight advantage...still, even in human form, Garrett has the advantage of strength, cunning, intelligence, experience (Garrett is over 2000 years old and used to spar with Gladiators for fun) while the only advantage Edward has over a human form Garrrett is speed. Which means he can (and should) run away as fast as he can and assume that Garrett doesn't want to kill him badly enough to turn into a dragon and chase. Most dragons, Garrett included, can fly at speeds exceeding the sound barrier, and they don't have to take off slowly But he also knows other vampires, sorcerers, and even a couple of other otherworldly beings that he could count on to battle a sparkling vampire.
ReplyDeleteAs for Leigh Hilburn...that's a totally different matter. Let's assume Leigh isn't partnered with Fred Kurtz (a sorcerer introduced in the second Dragon's Blood book) because if we have them both go up against Eddie, we might as well just throw a dragon at him. Between Fred's spells and Leigh's combat training (American Army Airborne Ranger, surviving in an Army prison, then French Foreign Legion, followed by years of hunting monsters no one believes in) and weapons...there is no chance. In fact, Fred could probably take out Edward Cullen alone. So, we'll just assume that Leigh fights him alone. Leigh considers himself a soldier, so he's going to go at any situation like a military strike. First, he'll gather intel on the target. Then he'll device a plan with multiple contingencies. After weapon/gear selection (which would include a few magical bits from Fred) he would do a few practice runs in a secure area until he had the opp down pat. Then and only then would he execute the mission. This could be anything from a brazen frontal assault, to just loading up Cullen's house with C-4 and blowing it up while he's inside it. If it got down to a fist-fight between Leigh and Edward (which, Leigh would probably never allow to happen) Edward's speed would provide him with a great advantage. To compensate, Leigh would have to use weapons that cover a large area, like a grenade launcher or flame thrower. Even then, it's iffy. But, it is unlikely that Leigh would allow it to read that point.
Anyone else you want to see the characters in my book fight?
